Entrepreneurship simply means starting and running your own business, taking on the risk, and working to solve a real problem for people who will pay for the solution. In India, this idea has grown far beyond big cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai. Tier-2 and tier-3 cities are now producing strong founders too, helped by cheaper internet, UPI payments, and a growing startup ecosystem.<\/span><\/p>

When I started Oratrics, the goal wasn’t just to build a company. It was to solve a real gap helping children and working professionals build communication and confidence skills that schools often don’t teach.     Here’s the path I’d recommend to anyone serious about starting a business, based on what actually worked (and didn’t) for me.<\/span><\/p>

    1. Find a Problem Worth Solving<\/b><\/h3>

    Don’t start with “what business should I do.” Start with “what problem do I understand better than most people.” The best business ideas usually come from your own frustration, your job, or something you’ve noticed people struggling with repeatedly.<\/span><\/p>

    2. Validate Before You Build<\/b><\/h3>

    Before spending money, talk to at least 20-30 potential customers. Ask if they’d actually pay for your solution, not just if they “like the idea.” Most people are polite; you need honest signals, not compliments.<\/span><\/p>

    3. Choose Bootstrapping or Funding Early<\/b><\/h3>

    This is one of the biggest decisions in Indian entrepreneurship. Bootstrapping (funding the business yourself through revenue) gives you full control but slower growth. Raising funding from investors gives you speed but means giving up ownership and answering to others. We chose to bootstrap Oratrics, which meant slower early growth but let us stay close to our customers and make decisions without external pressure. Neither path is “correct” ; it depends on your business model and how much control you want to keep.<\/span><\/p>

    4. Register Your Business Properly<\/b><\/h3>

    Most small businesses in India start as a sole proprietorship or a Private Limited Company. MSME (Udyam) registration is worth doing early; it opens up access to government schemes, easier loans, and credibility with clients.<\/span><\/p>

    5. Build an Entrepreneurial Skill Set, Not Just a Product<\/b><\/h3>

    A good product isn’t enough. Founders also need public speaking skills to pitch to investors and customers, basic financial literacy to manage cash flow, and leadership skills to build a team people actually want to work for.
